WHEREAS: (1) there exists the possibility of destruction through some local catastrophe of any collection or of the records of any collection; (2) there is value to science in general of each collection; (3) there are needs of individual scientists to use specimens in many collections; and (4) there is increasing difficulty of obtaining information about available specimens as numbers of specimens increase:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the American Society of Mammalogists gathered at its Forty-second Annual Meeting recommends that: 1) records of collections be microfilmed, 2) copies of microfilm be deposited in several places, and 3) copies be made available to interested scientists, and, be it further resolved that the Society commends efforts of individuals and institutions to accomplish these purposes.
