Resolution Requesting the Mexican Government to Protect Endangered Species

WHEREAS, several species of animal life live in Mexico that are considered by other countries to be endangered or threatened; and

WHEREAS, Mexico has shown initial interest in its endangered and threatened species; and

WHEREAS, the success of protecting these species depends upon the participation and cooperation of all countries within the continent;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the American Society of Mammalogists encourages Mexico and its various States that do not at present have laws regarding endangered species to enact legislation of a kind that will identify and protect endangered species and their habitats; and

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that Mexico cooperate fully with the United States and Canada in developing a formal agreement for research, rehabilitation and protection on and for those species which are shared by them.
